Greetings and best wishes from Mr. Allied and welcome to my sale! Please have confidence in my 100% honest descriptions and please read the following carefully. This is an Original, No. 2426W Tender, Produced by The Master Craftsmen of The Lionel Corporation of 28 Sager Place, Irvington, New Jersey, Circa 1950 or so. This is the “BIG” die-cast metal tender that came with Lionel’s most deluxe steam locomotives, between 1946 & 1950. It came with the 726 Berkshire and the legendary 773 Hudson. This was the best & most detailed tender Lionel made in the post war years. This is the correct version for the 1950 773 Hudson, as it has the plastic whistle body and the “closed” front steps. The frame is stamped steel, while the body is die-cast metal. The coal pile is “bakelite, ” which was an early form of plastic. It has an operating, electro-magnetic coupler at the rear which works nicely. It also has a whistle, which works with the characteristic “growl” that they all make. I see no cracks, chips or other damage to the tender. It is in exceptionally nice condition. Look at the trucks, the frame, the coupler, etc. This tender has had some of what I would call very minor touch up to the black paint. I say this not because I see touch up all over the place, but because I know who I got this from and the gentleman liked to touch up his trains. That said, I do believe that probably 98% of the paint on this tender is original. The lettering is all original. The wires to the whistle have been replaced with that wonderful “super flex” wire. Anyway, these old eyes don’t see like they used to, so I ask that you take the time to “ZOOM IN” and look the photos over very closely, to determine for yourself just what we have here.
