See the photos of this nice, all original set of 4 Lionel cars and the engine. Never restored or messed with and appears to have not been played with very much. Green with orange trim. Numbers 253, 607, 607, and 608. Each still has the little paper label on the bottom. I have no idea if the engine works but it looks sound. This is a set for the collector that only buys material that is in “original” condition. Like all of my items, this lot looks much nicer than my amateurish photos indicate.

You are looking at a big beautiful prewar steam engine and tender in the classic black. You gotta love any of the art deco streamlined looking locomotives. Call it a Torpedo style, call it the first Silver Bullet, but call it yours before someone else does. This is a classic looking engine and tender produced by Lionel in the mid to late 1930’s. The streamlined style really gives it that great classic toy train look. The 1688 is one of the ones collectors and operates alike love to have. Serviced and running, reversing. Nicely repainted flat black. You can see a little paint around the nameplates. There’s some oxidation and wear on all of the plates. The slot and tab have rust. It is missing 1 of the `guide lamp bolds that hold the cow catcher. Look at the pictures for best physical description. I bought this with many problems, Need taken apart, cleaned, re-wired, need couplers, and wheels. Everything was polished and cleaned. It was totally refurbished and restored the shell and frame, lights work, Lot of work but runs and looks great now. Color is Dark Green paint. If my price seems high I want you to know that I usually put 6-10+ hours of labor restoring it to the condition it is at now. Plus I usually put Fifty to one Hundred ++ dollars in refurbished or new parts. They are almost impossible to find anymore. And are not cheap. Sometimes less sometimes more. If you want one cheaper you may have to repair it and its costly. Even the new parts do not fit and have to be modified. Tested it running in forward and reverse. I serviced the motor, Serviced manual reversing switch, Antique Prewar Tin Plate Engine. Made in the 1920’S. Runs F & R, Great runner Forward and reverse. Look at the picture. Decide for your self.
