This is a 254 Looks original but when I bought it, it needed two new wheels, new wires, motor cleaned, it was full of grease, new brushes and couplers fixed. Looks like they were replace at one time and needed work. I cleaned all the original brass parts on it also. Switch with manual side switch forward and revers A-OK. The 254 has no e-unit just the reversing manual switch on the side. The 254 is much larger than the 150 series or the 253 and 252 engines. Vintage/Antique Lionel 254 Original Light green color Prewar 0-4-0 Electric engine. I bought this one because it look original. Look at the pictures of it running and ask questions. You don’t see them like this now a days. For it’s age it does have a few scratches but nothing. May had some frame touch ou some time ago? Since these are 90 years old and brought back to life. My labor is basically free just a hobby for me. Have to get them back on the road again. Thank you for looking. See pictures for this is the best description. This is a 254E Looks original but when I bought it the guts for the old pendent type e-unit was missing. I installed a new re-built e-unit that’s more dependable. The side switch in one position allows you to forward & – reverse motor.. The other position lets it run with out it reversing. The 254 has no e-unit just the reversing manual switch on the side the 254E engines have the old Lionel pendant style e-unit. The E stands for e-unit. Vintage/Antique Lionel 254E Original Light green with orange vents color Prewar 0-4-0 Electric engine. I went over it and serviced it & tightened every thing cleaned it. Look great now and runs great. See picture of it running. Repaired what was needed to make it like it is. Very nice runner, lubed. The 254 has the reversing manual switch on the side the 254 engines This has been restored and serviced. Vintage/Antique Lionel 254 Original Black & Gold trim color Prewar 0-4-0 Electric engine. Very nice runner, lubed. Check out the pictures. This type engine runs in both direction. Has a manual switch lever on the side to reverse or go forward. Works and runs great. I did put a coat of clear coat over the shell and all the brass to protect it. I does cause some glare on the pictures. I bought this engine with lots of missing parts. Someone long time ago painted this engine with a brush and used water base paint. They even painted all the brass trim some color. Motor did run but need serviced, new wires, cleaned, brushes & lubed. The engine parts and shell plus frame need to be stripped and repainted. What you see you will get. Lots of work spent on this one. Some new parts and all the brass cleaned and polished. We now have a very nice smooth running engine over 90 years old. Did the best I could.
