Lionel Early Prewar Standard Gauge Blue Comet 400E and matching cars with boxes
Just heard from a gentlemen that this is a first year set, 1931. And that the frame normally subject to warping and pot metal rot has held up well over the years. TCA members should go to the Flyer for club offers. This set has been in storage for years and it was nice to get it out again. I paid more attention to the set itself than the boxes. The engine box has the insert and most all flaps and it is labeled correctly. Tender box has most flaps and is labeled correctly. One car box has most flaps and it is labeled correctly for the 420 car. There are two boxes labeled 421-55, making one correct and the other one mislabeled. One of them is missing all the flaps on one end and that end is very rough. It has essentially performed well as a sleeve to protect the car as you can tell from the photo’s of the cars. Want more pics of anything I can attach them to the response. That were members of the TCA. The engine turns freely. I have not run it for obvious reasons. It is also posted in the TCA flyer for a club. Check out my Feedback on sales of postwar collectibles, including. I take care to describe every item and in detail no matter the price range. Many of the Feedback’s I’ve received state better than expected. Also listed in the TCA Flyer for club savings. Check all the pics. This is out of my own 50 plus year lifetime collection. Once it’s gone I know I won’t be able to replace it. No York TCA shows, no problem. Some of the window film has been replaced in one car and some of the others is damaged.
