Lionel 224E Prewar Locomotive with 2224W Die Cast Whistle Tender 1940. This is a Lionel 224E Prewar locomotive with matching 2224W die cast whistle tender produced in 1940 only (224Es were produced in 1940-41, but those produced in 1941 all had plastic tenders). The locomotive has a 2-6-2 configuration with Baldwin forged rimmed drive wheels, die-cast trailing truck, detailed valve gear, 3-position E-unit, and operating headlight. Both marker lights, and pilot steps are intact. The E-unit is new. The motor, E-unit, and all bearings have been cleaned and lubricated and everything works. The die cast tender has an operating box coupler. All hand rails, corner steps, and grab bars are original and none is missing. The whistle motor was cleaned and lubricated and works well. The Legendary 999: New York Central’s 999 Was Recognized as the First Locomotive to Travel at Over 100 MPH on May 10, 1893. The Empire State Express Traveled The Famous New York to Chicago Route in the Early Days of American Railroading. Item Description: You are looking at a Spectacular Top of the Line Kenton Floor Train Set which is Over 100 Years Old. This Empire State Express Passenger Set is Over 4 Feet Long End to End. Normally the set would have an Electro-Oxidized Finish. This Set is Not Electro-Oxidized, it is However All Painted with Early Thick Heavy Paint. The Engine’s and Tender’s Black Paint appears to have an Original Factory Patina. All other Paint on the Engine and Cars may have been applied by a private party. The New York and Chicago Cars have Red and Yellow undercoats. Either way, All the Paint is Very Old and Meticulously Applied. The Set is a Beautiful Example of Early Americana, a 1 of 1, Unique Paint Combo. THE TENDER HAS BEEN REPAINTED, LABELED WHITE VALLEY RAILROAD AND HAS POST-WAR TRUCKS. THERE ARE NO BROKEN OR MISSING PARTS WHICH INCLUDE ALL HAND RAILS AND STEPS, AND THE WHISTLE WORKS.
