Here we have Lionel set #268 from about 1928/29. The cars and locomotive motors are beautifully restored nearly 100 year old toys. The original LIonel motors have been disassembled, rewired, regeared and rewheeled. They have both been bench tested and run fine. I have never had a double motor loco on the track, so I can’t tell you how they would run in that respect. The motors have their original brass builder’s plates still attached. All of the cars have been completely disassembled, stripped, primed, painted and kiln dried, all the original wheels and trim have been polished and or replated and the lights rewired. They have been relettered using exact repro rubberstamps like Lionel used in the late 1920’s. The frame, and I believe the loco cab body, were produced by Williams in the late 1980’s into the 1990’s. The entire set was restored in the late 1990’s and has been boxed up since. The #256 and the 710 series cars were the largest cars ever made in “O” gauge by Lionel before World War 2. This set, when displayed is about four feet long! I restored Lionel prewar for over 30 years and had tons of parts, but alas, I don’t even have an extra bulb kicking around!
