The hopper doors have been replaced. No significant scratches, dings or rust. Graphics are in good condition. Some minor paint loss on top outer edge. Heavy weighs 1 lb. Nice piece and a very rare find.

Lionel 224E Prewar Locomotive with 2224W Die Cast Whistle Tender 1940. This is a Lionel 224E Prewar locomotive with matching 2224W die cast whistle tender produced in 1940 only (224Es were produced in 1940-41, but those produced in 1941 all had plastic tenders). The locomotive has a 2-6-2 configuration with Baldwin forged rimmed drive wheels, die-cast trailing truck, detailed valve gear, 3-position E-unit, and operating headlight. Both marker lights, and pilot steps are intact. The E-unit is new. The motor, E-unit, and all bearings have been cleaned and lubricated and everything works. The die cast tender has an operating box coupler. All hand rails, corner steps, and grab bars are original and none is missing. The whistle motor was cleaned and lubricated and works well. There are no cracks or chips in the body and all journal boxes are original.

There is no tender included, so you can use whichever tender you want to this engine–prewar or postwar. This is one of the iconic prewar steam engines, a nice diecast engine. This model was produced prewar and postwar, but the features of this one date it to 1940-41. This one is the prewar version–note. The flat rear deck of the cab. Moveable bell on top. Metal plates for number under cab. NO tender included in this listing. Tested and runs, reverses. Clean but has some oxidation on the siderods and some rubs and paint chips in the black. One marker light is missing the jewel. I can replace for you upon request. Good metal plates under cab. Tested and runs, lights, reverses.
