Excellent Lionel Original Prewar BOXED Blue Comet Set #396E. A beautiful true original example of Lionel’s most iconic set! Includes #400E Loco, #400T Tender, both in two-tone blue with brass/copper trim, #420 Faye, #421 Westphal, #422 Tempel, all in two-tone blue with brass trim and die-cast journals, and all the original boxes except for the tender box. All pieces are all original with no touchup or repaint ever. The loco is very nice with a slight stretch to the frame. It has great paint with only a couple nicks throughout, and slight wear to the cab roof. The loco has all original wheels, and the motor works, but the wheels bind, so the drive wheels would need to be replaced in order to run. The bright work on the loco is clean and shines well. All 3 cars and the tender are beautiful, with bright clean shiny paint. They are in excellent condition with only a couple nicks throughout. The #422 has one small dent on the end of the roof. All trim is intact on the set. The loco box is nice with the original insert. It is correctly marked #400E Blue, but has later tape on it. It is missing end flaps on one end. All 3 car boxes are correct for the cars, two are marked #420. They are all missing end flaps on one end, but are all complete on the other ends. Please examine photos as they are the best description. What a great condition example of this highly desirable set perfect for the collector! Everyone needs a Blue Comet, do not miss this one!
