Lionel Tinplate Prewar 225E Gunmetal Steam Engine with 2225W Whistle Tender

Lionel 225E Steam Engine With 2225W Whistle Tender. This is a Prewar Tinplate Lionel 225E steam engine with a 2225W tender. The engine has been restored. The restoration consisted of repainting the engine shell and pilot and the tender shell and frame in the original Gunmetal color. The nickel trim and wheels were cleaned and polished. In addition the gears and motor brushes and brush springs were cleaned and lubricated and some old wiring was replaced. A new eunit drum was installed as well. The tender wheels were cleaned and lubricated and the whistle motor was cleaned and lubricated. The pair was tested on my fastrack layout and ran correctly. The whistle sounded off when the engine was at speed. This pair is in C7 condition and can be operated or displayed. Lionel Prewar 238E Pennsylvania Engine with 2225W Whistle Tender C7 condition

Lionel 238E Engine and 2225W Whistle Tender. This is a Lionel Prewar 238E engine with a 2225W Whistle tender. The pair have been restored. The restoration consisted of disassembling the engine and tender. The engine and tender body and frame were repainted in the original black color. The nickel trim was cleaned and polished. The engine and whistle motor were cleaned and lubricated and all of the gears, wheels and bearings were cleaned and lubricated. The engine and tender were reassembled and was tested on my O-36 layout and ran correctly with the exception that the eunit drum has one intermittent contact which occasionally required and extra cycle to reverse the engine. The whistle sounded off but is a bit noisy which is common for these prewar 80 year old whistles. This pair is in C7 condition and can be operated or displayed. Lionel Prewar 238 locomotive, 2225W tender. Lionel offered the attractive streamlined 238E / 238 from 1936 to 1942. In 1939 the “E” was dropped because the reversing “E unit” was considered standard equipment at that time. This is the black version with a 2225W tender, which was offered in 1939 and 1940. This very nice example is a very strong, fast runner. The E-unit was been rebuilt and works flawlessly. The tender’s operating box coupler works well. The locomotive has some very minor paint touch ups along the lower edge, the tender has more extensive touch ups. Please see the pictures for condition.
