We try to be Friendly to our international customers especially with our. UPS Standard to Canada. Lionel Pre-war 0 Gauge 248 Electric Locomotive was introduced in 1927 and cataloged through 1932. Been completely disassembled cleaned and reworked its wiring. Runs well but forward only as it has no reversing unit, and the headlight works. Comes with it’s two matching passenger coaches 629 and 630. This was Lionel’s. Smallest electric engine, and never came with a reversing unit. The 248 is 7 3/4 inches long- not including couplers. The dark green and orange versions came with a strap or diecast headlight. Locomotive has a Lionel CBC-1S combination coupler. Lionel was trying to compete with the Ives patented. The latch couplers were made compatible with the hook couplers by the addition slotted extension welded to the shank of the latch coupler. These combo couplers CBC-1S were used on locomotives up to about 1926. For a time in the 1930s, Lionel produced a combination coupler. This coupler has a hook and latch on it to work with the later automatic couplers, but it also has a slot in it to accommodate the tab in a tab-in-slot coupler. Lionel put these couplers on engines so they could pull both types of cars, and Lionel made this type in both Standard Gauge and O Gauge sizes. Be careful when shopping for these to get the right size. Lionel only used these couplers on engines, but there’s nothing to say you have to. You can mount this coupler on a regular car to give it the ability to connect with either type. You can’t couple a tab-in-slot coupler directly to the late prewar box coupler. But you can put this coupler on one or both ends of a car and use that as a universal car that can accommodate the other two Lionel types, since both a box-coupler and a tab-in-slot coupler can connect up with a combination coupler. A box-cab, in railroad terminology, is a locomotive in which the machinery and crew areas are enclosed in a box-like superstructure. In 1912 GE combined for the first time an internal combustion engine with electric traction motors. Impetus for wider adoption of this technology was provided by improved control systems introduced around 1920 and the State of New York’s. Which banned the use of steam locomotives within the New York metropolitan area. A consortium consisting of Alco GE and Ingersol Rand. Started series production of the ALCO-Box-cabs in 1925. GE and Ingersoll Rand went on with the production of the former ALCO boxcabs, but without ALCO. All models have chassis and Running Gear Generators, traction motors. And controls from GE, and Ingersoll Rand provided the diesel engine. The principle of operation was the same as modern locomotives, the diesel engine driving a main generator of 600 volts DC with four axle-hung traction motors. In contrast to the ALCO boxcabs having a design with side doors and ladders the GE boxcabs have front doors and end platforms with steps. The underframe was cast steel. The radiator system was sitting on the roof of the locomotive. At each locomotive end a GE Model CD65 motor with a Sturtevant multivane fan. Was pressing air through the radiators. The General Electric Company has a history that dates back to the late 1870s. Despite some bumps in the road over the years; it still remains one of the largest corporations in the world, building everything from jet engines to kitchen appliances. GE’s introduction into the locomotive manufacturing market began as early as 1918 and they built modest diesel switchers during the 1930s and 1940s. The company also manufactured locomotives in conjunction with the American Locomotive Company (Alco) for many years. However, this partnership cratered in the mid-1950s when GE recognized Alco was increasingly lagging behind industry leader GM’s Electro-Motive Division. Over time, General Electric’s locomotives became evermore reliable to the point that the company eclipsed General Motor’s EMD in the 1980’s. GE is credited with commercially producing the very first diesel-electric locomotive in 1918, a motor car design built for the Jay Street Connecting Railroad, Engine #4. Designated as model GM-50 it was essentially a diesel-powered motor car, somewhat similar to an interurban car, and built, in conjunction with Alco and Ingersoll-Rand. Later, in 1924 the three companies built a 300 horsepower, 60-ton box-cab design. In the event you are not, please contact me immediately before leaving feedback so we may resolve it.
