From the estate of the original owner. Locomotive motor has been cleaned and lubricated and runs well forward and reverse. The motor has been re-wheeled with aftermarket repro wheels. Lights work in all the cars. This set shows considerable play wear but would be a good starter set for a Prewar collection or for repainting if desired. LIONEL Prewar 253 engine Vintage/Antique OLD restored, Serviced, runs great
If my price seems high I want you to know that I usually put 6-10 hours of labor restoring it to the condition it is at now. Plus I usually put Fifty to one Hundred dollars in refurbished or new parts. Sometimes less sometimes more. If you want one cheaper you may have to repair it and its costly. I bought this engine & restored it sometime ago. It had many problems. Wheels damaged and needed cleaning. Wires, brushes, would not run or switch directions, And beat up. Everything taken care of now. It is a very nice Lionel 253 Restored Great condition. Has been serviced, some new parts, Tested and runs great in both directions. See picture running is forward and reverse. Older restore, I serviced the motor, Serviced manual reversing switch, and some wire. Wheels are all good now, several new. Run great in both directions. Has a reversing switch on the side. You will not be disappointed. This is a earlier 253 with the Cast type lights. Dark Green with Brass inserts. Antique Prewar Tin Plate Engine. Also not sure if it was repainted or not you collectors will be the judge. Thank you for understanding. Also i may add to the description this was wrapped up in newspaper and white wrapping tissue paper thats what you see under the bottom their still more sticking on the metal it under bottom corners and more just need to clean it off with some water theirs even black writing from the newspapers black ink that stuck to metal that i pealed off most of it and the lettering from newspaper stuck to metal but will come right off, .
