Here is a Lionel 400E Standard Gauge 4-4-4 Steam Locomotive & Tender from 1936-39. The 400E is Lionel’s largest Standard Gauge Steam Locomotive and is the engine many people think of when they think Standard Gauge. It is nearly three feet long and features include a working headlight and red fire box glow light. This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good. This set is in overall Very Good condition, with just a few minor imperfections. There are nicks and scratches along the surface of both the tender and locomotive. There are some cracks in the paint of the silver trim pieces. The locomotive frame is original but is slightly warped with some cracking along the edges. Also, the steam chest assembly is original with minor cracks as well. Some areas of paint have been touched up and the boiler front is not an original piece. When tested, our team found that the engine runs smooth but the e-unit sticks sometimes. They also found that the tender whistle tries to work but is very raspy. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. The original box is not included. The instruction manual is not included.
