Greetings and best wishes from Mr. Allied and welcome to my sale! Please have confidence in my 100% honest descriptions and please read the following carefully. This is an Original, Lionel, Pre-War “O” Gauge, Outfit No. 275W with Additional Cars, Etc, Produced by the Master Craftsmen of The Lionel Corporation, 28 Sager Place, Irvington, New Jersey, Circa 1937. I have been actively chasing old toy trains for over 50 years now and this is one of the best “finds” I have ever come across! As the son remembers it, he never saw the set up and running. Obviously, the father never ran it much as a kid either, as these photos attest. The original Outfit No. 275W only came with the gondola car, box car and caboose. The tank car and lumber car were added, as was the No. I believe that everything here is 100% factory original. I have only lightly dusted theses pieces off. I have not disassembled, cleaned or polished anything, this is exactly as I found these items. Here are detailed descriptions of the pieces. 263E Locomotive: I bench tested it and it runs both forward & reverse, but the E-unit hangs up some. I’m quite sure this loco needs a good lubrication, etc. Both the headlight and firebox lights work. One pilot wheel is suffering from metal fatigue. If this loco is to be run much, that wheel should be replaced. I believe that replacements are available. The boiler front opens and closes nicely, with the latch working properly. The nickel plated trim ring around the headlight is a bit corroded. It may polish off, I’m not sure. The ring could be removed and re-plated or I believe perfect replacements are available. The locomotive box is spectacular! It is complete with the main insert and a second, smaller insert. NOTE: In the 2nd photo, what appears to be missing paint at the bottom of the tank, just above the drive wheels, is a reflection. There is no paint missing there. 263W Tender: The whistle blows nicely. The drawbar is slightly bent, but should straighten out very easily. The tender box is also just beautiful. 811 Lumber Car: It has the original lumber pieces. I have used some very tiny, clear rubber bands to keep it in place for photographic purposes. The box is missing all flaps at one end and a portion of the coupler guide at the other end. 812 Gondola Car: It has four 2-piece, wooden barrels. The original box is missing most of the end flap, one inner flap and the coupler guide from one end. The other end is missing a portion of the coupler guide. 814 Box Car: The box is missing the coupler guide from one end. The coupler guide at the other end is complete but torn into two pieces, which can be repaired. 815 Oil Car: The decals are all original. The box is a bit crushed and torn, but not bad. One coupler guide is mostly missing at one end. 817 Caboose: The box is missing all flaps from one end and the coupler guide is mostly missing from the other end. Original 275W Outfit Carton: This set box is in need of substantial repairs. The label is quite nice, as you can see in the photo, but the rest of the carton is suffering. The fabric seam is torn. One long flap and one short flap are completely loose from the carton. The other two are very flimsy. The taped seam at the bottom of the carton is very weak. The cardboard is separating in some areas. I have no doubt that this carton could be made to be reasonably presentable, but it will need work. Photos supplied upon request. This set also comes with. The rare and original locomotive inspection card. The original 32-page instruction booklet dated for 1937. The original 22-page track layout booklet. The original 32-page “How to Build a Model Railroad” handbook. 8 Original curved “O” gauge track sections. 4 Original straight “O” gauge track sections. The original UTC Lockon and two original connecting wires. 66 Whistle Controller in a complete, original box. 91 Circuit Breaker with the original instruction sheet. These items are not “perfect, ” as there are minor marks, etc. That said, in my over 50 years of aggressively collecting and dealing in old trains, these items are right up there close to the very best I have ever seen. Anyway, these old eyes don’t see like they used to, so I ask that you take the time to “ZOOM IN” and look the photos over very closely, to determine for yourself just what we have here.
