This little red caboose during the pre-world war ii years, is a neat example on what basic life was like way before the debut of the internet, rock n roll music, on the go fast food, social media, & other things. It was also from an era before Lionel upgraded all of their locomotives & rolling stock with smoke for steam engines, & automatic but realistic knuckle couplers. This is due to a fact that a metal latch coupler is on the caboose. Now here’s something very uncommon but also very rare indeed: on one side the Lionel lines logo & number are facing the correct way, but the other side does have the Lionel lines logo right but the number however, is upside down on my copy for some reason which makes this model a 100% factory error. This is one of the few remaining copies in existence to have that mistake on the model. Although this never came with its own box, it’ll still be a nice add-on to your layout and/or collection about what the world was like a century ago more or less. This is a 254 Looks original but when I bought it, it needed two new wheels, new wires, motor cleaned, it was full of grease, new brushes and couplers fixed. Looks like they were replace at one time and needed work. I cleaned all the original brass parts on it also. Switch with manual side switch forward and revers A-OK. The 254 has no e-unit just the reversing manual switch on the side. The 254 is much larger than the 150 series or the 253 and 252 engines. Vintage/Antique Lionel 254 Original Light green color Prewar 0-4-0 Electric engine. I bought this one because it look original. Look at the pictures of it running and ask questions. You don’t see them like this now a days. For it’s age it does have a few scratches but nothing. May had some frame touch ou some time ago? Since these are 90 years old and brought back to life. My labor is basically free just a hobby for me. Have to get them back on the road again. Thank you for looking. See pictures for this is the best description. This is a 254E Looks original but when I bought it the guts for the old pendent type e-unit was missing. I installed a new re-built e-unit that’s more dependable. The side switch in one position allows you to forward & – reverse motor.. The other position lets it run with out it reversing. The 254 has no e-unit just the reversing manual switch on the side the 254E engines have the old Lionel pendant style e-unit. The E stands for e-unit. Vintage/Antique Lionel 254E Original Light green with orange vents color Prewar 0-4-0 Electric engine. I bought this one because it look original but needed two new wheels, reversing switch, re-wired, and serviced. Really sharp for its age. I the brass some. THE Description is the pictures. I went over it and serviced it & tightened every thing cleaned it. Look great now and runs great. See picture of it running. Repaired what was needed to make it like it is. Very nice runner, lubed. The passenger cars look better than average, but you will want to do some work on the locomotive or replace? Someone added the transformer, a nice big powerful Jefferson, and it comes with a prewar lock on and wires. 530 XL Olive Observation. It is nice to have a prewar set this compelte. Needs original headlight assembly as the one that is here is not original. Gets power, but is not running. Good printing on loco. Are in various states of rough. One box still has end flap with stamping, and it is labelled 530 XL Olive. Loco box is in pieces. All look nice and are complete. All cars have labels on the bottom. Strong orange colors and strong printing for these. They show a little wear on the roof, but not too much. Shows lots of wear but all four sides are here. Crisp stamping on inside of box. Set box has two corners separated. And a prewar universal lock on and prewar wires. Transformer is untested but looks good.
