Greetings and best wishes from Mr. Allied and welcome to my sale! Please have confidence in my 100% honest descriptions and please read the following carefully. This is an Original, Pre-War, War “O” Gauge, Milwaukee Road “Hiawatha” Passenger Train Set, Produced by the Master Craftsmen of The American Flyer Manufacturing Company of Chicago, Illinois, Produced in This Version, in 1936 ONLY! The locomotive appears to have been partially restored, with the gray and orange redone, along with the decals. That said, whomever did the restoration did a very nice job. The locomotive has a cast aluminum body, while the rest of the train is stamped steel. The cars all have interior lighting, which I have not tested. This is the one year only 1936 set with the “four rail” track, for the operation of the whistle in the tender. The track is just about impossible to find these days and included in this sale are 12 curved and 4 straight sections, which appear to be in very nice condition. The set will run fine on regular, 3-rail track, but the whistle will not blow in such a case, unless the tender pick-ups are modified. I bench tested the loco and it runs nicely and the light works, but the reversing unit is hanging up and will not put the motor in reverse. One side rod is missing, but I believe one could easily be fashioned. The whistle blows but is sluggish and in need of lubrication. Also, a wire needs to be soldered onto the truck pick-up. The original boxes are included. The loco box and two others are nice, the other two are torn, please see photos. Anyway, these old eyes don’t see like they used to, so I ask that you take the time to “ZOOM IN” and look the photos over very closely, to determine for yourself just what we have here.
