Very nice time capsule from 1940. The Lionel #204 was a prewar O gauge steam locomotive produced in the 1930s until 1940, known for being a more accessible model for collectors. It was part of a range of prewar locomotives that were built with tin-plated steel rolling stock. Today, collectors seek out these prewar models for their historical value, often restoring them to running condition. Materials: These engines were primarily constructed from tin-plated steel and diecast, which was then painted with bright enamels. Coupling: Some prewar cars, such as the #204, were often paired with a tender that could have different types of couplers. Some versions of this model also had knuckle couplers. Restoration: Many #204 locomotives have been restored by collectors, who polish the drive rods, clean the engine, and replace decals to keep them in good working order. Value: The value of a prewar #204 depends on its condition and features, but it is considered a classic and sought-after model. How to identify a Lionel #204. Bottom plate: The engine’s bottom plate often has an identification number, though it can be hard to find. Model number: The number “204” is often stamped on the bottom of the locomotive.
