These tough cars are in VG-EX- condition overall. Both show nice bright colors and nice graphics. No dents or rust. Sone typical paint imperfections and chipping. Cars have latch couplers, nickel journals and cars have interior lighting. The boxes are original and in nice condition. Both are solid with original factory tape. Two inner flaps are missing and part of one outer flap is missing. Tape repairs on on box. Please see photos as they are an important part of the description. Lionel Prewar Standard Gauge Coal Train #393E: #390E 2-4-2 Diecast Steam Loco, with enameled heavy tin #390T Tender, 3 Each #516 Hoppers, and a #517 Caboose. Set is in original condition, shows relatively light play wear. The most noticeable flaw is a keystone (likely PRR) shaped scrape on one side of the tender (fairly light) and on one side of the caboose. The train shows some light play wear but overall effect is excellent. The wheels of the engine show no signs of metal fatigue. The set was offered in 1929 only. The hoppers have gold rubber-stamped lettering with capacity data on the sides. The #517 caboose is unique to this set: red body and black roof. The #390E locomotive runs well with a smooth reverse unit. The headlight of the loco works as does the light above the rear platform of the caboose. This set does not include track or a transformer. And bulky set is going to be steep.
Lionel PreWar #225E 2-6-2 Locomotive with #2245W Whistle Tender from 1938 to 1942 production years. Note: Second last bottom of tender incorrectly stamped “2224T” – frame may have been switched while trucks & whistle from a 2245W or a 2224W (identical metal tenders) were added over the past 80 yrs… Prewar mystery since this was not in my family and do not know the full history. Layout Tested, Oiled, Cleaned and Lubed to run well and operate as designed.
Use the pictures to determine condition for yourself. The chrome isn’t really good shape. There’s not much pitting at all. There’s a dent or two. I tried to get in the pictures. They’re very small. The bottoms of all the coaches are still scratch free. I would say this has very low on time and is in excellent condition for its age. The set box has all the flaps. The set number is ripped off of the box from when the tape came off. I assure you this is the original set box for this set. It has the engine box which is complete and the coach boxes are not in great shape They’re missing and either both or one of the ends. There is no insert for the engine box.
