Lionel Prewar Red Chief Passenger Set consisting of #792, #792, #793, and #794 cars. As you can see the cars are original and untouched and retain 90% of their original paint. The Zamac bellies are blown or expanded as is common. Zamac is an alloy primarily made of zinc, aluminum, magnesium, and copper. Contamination can occur during the manufacturing process, affecting the quality it was often know as “Zinc Pest”. Specifically, the 4 set Rail Chief cars were categorized as prewar 072 and painted maroon with red sides. Their open ends at the rear of the front coach. Both ends of the 2 mid coaches (# 793) and front of the observation. Attach to a truck vestibule giving the whole assembly a decidedly streamlined look. Lionel offered these cars in a set headed by the famous 700E Hudson from 1937 to 1941. Rail Chief was actually the name of the complete set rather than the cars themselves.
