Lionel Prewar #616E Flying Yankee Passenger Set: #616, #617 & # 618 with Red Top. The motor runs sluggishly. Missing one end of the pick-up. One of the wheels looks like it was replaced with a sheet metal wheel like you would find one some passenger cars. This should be swapped for the correct die-cast wheel. The e-unit works most of the time but not every time. Fair amount of surface rust and paint wear. Good for a project. Please review all photos for condition.

Use the pictures to determine condition for yourself. The chrome isn’t really good shape. There’s not much pitting at all. There’s a dent or two. I tried to get in the pictures. They’re very small. The bottoms of all the coaches are still scratch free. I would say this has very low on time and is in excellent condition for its age. The set box has all the flaps. The set number is ripped off of the box from when the tape came off. I assure you this is the original set box for this set. It has the engine box which is complete and the coach boxes are not in great shape They’re missing and either both or one of the ends. There is no insert for the engine box.

617 coach and 618 tail car that are all chrome, nickel bottom pan on 618 and 617 is version with 2 doors each side. 617 only has a few small corrosion spots on roof, sides are shiny-clean EX. 618 is about as close to Like New with clean mirror-like finish as you can find. 618 has chrome skirts and 1935 slide pick-up on truck. The vestibule is a 1936 vintage, chrome with black-oxide side skirts. One side skirt has some finish-loss. Both cars have complete window plastic and trim, lights worked/flickered. These cars make 2/3 of a chrome Flying Yankee set, you just need the correct 616E power car. Also note that the all-chrome 618 is one of the 2 cars in the very rare set 279E, Silver Streak pulled by a black 265E. Lionel Prewar Flying Yankee Streamline Passenger Set 616, 617, 617, 617, and 618 – O Gauge. For sale is the famous Lionel Flying Yankee. Set, along with several written pieces of information on the set. Runs Well, See Video. This Prewar Set sale includes. 616W Engine, with working whistle. Three 617 Pulman Coaches. Estibules plus the light in the 618. Offered by Lionel from 1935 to 1941. The set has a few paint dings and some scratches. Top of the engine shows wear. The engine has a bent front fender, as shown in the pictures. Not so noticeable when on the track. Runs and reverses well. Whistle sounds as can be heard in the video. From my reading on these trains, The low center of gravity made the Flying Yankee a high-speed kid pleaser. American Flyer Burlington Zephyr’s were known to be top heavy and unstable. The 616 set in this sale can run really fast. It has the reverse e-Unit. Whistle in the engine unit works. Lights in all vestibules light up as can be seen in the video. One pick-up on one vestibule is the roller type vs. The spring type on all the others. Metal wheels, trucks and axles. The window celluloid inserts on the engine and all cars looks to original. Information is included as pictured, which I have collected on these sets over several years. Please refer to pictures. Some pictures show shadows.
