This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. The locomotive and the cars have been re-painted by the previous owner. Each unit shows a rough paint texture with grooves and ripples visible in the paint. Some of the cranks on the locomotive are detached. Here is a really great Lionel 250E Vintage O Prewar Hiawatha Steam Locomotive & Passenger Train Car Set from 1936. This was the top-of-the-line train for 1935 and 1937. It is pulled by a 250E 4-4-2 Streamlined Atlantic Steam Locomotive with a 12-Wheel Tender. There is a 13 1/4″ long 782 Combine car, a 13 1/4″ long 783 Coach and a 16″ long 784 Observation car, and an 81/2″ Tender. The set is articulated with wheeled vestibules joining the cars. The cars have frosted celluloid windows and vestibule latches. Overall condition is Very Good. Minor scratches and paint nicks, minor surface rust, no dents. This engine and tender are survivors. Remember, the paint on the Hiawatha’s. Flaked off and chipped easily. These pieces were played with as you can see by the pictures. But, they was not abused. The paint has not been touched as you can see. Please, let the photos be your guide. Engine has been serviced. Runs great in both directions. Front light also works. The locomotive may have been re-wheeled at some time in the past. The whistle in the tender has been serviced and works. The engine’s right marker light is missing. Original Lionel Prewar Hiawatha Passenger Set. I acquired this set from original owner probably 35 years or so ago. I never ran it on my layout but had it displayed on shelving until it was packed away about 10 years ago. 250E Steam Locomotive Engine/no box. I track tested the engine and it runs forward…. Runs very quietly and smoothly. The e-unit is “sticky” and at times you have to tap the top of the engine to get it to rotate. This engine has the thicker boiler casting and also the diecast front truck (see close up pic) which is the more desirable variation of this engine to find. 250W 12-Wheel Whistle Tender/no box. Track tested and whistle and whistle relay work… However, it “groans and grinds” and is in need of lubrication. I didn’t want to take the time to dismantle the tender to lubricate it so I will leave this up to the new owner. 782 Head End Passenger Car/OB… Nice solid original box still sealed at one end. The die cast head end casting is broken on the underside where the stud for connecting the tender should be. I simply inserted a screw/nut and this worked well while I had it displayed… See close up pic. Both sides of the car are pictured. There is warp-age of the maroon frame on this car which is not uncommon. 13.5 diecast streamlined 4-4-2 Loco made mid 1930s to early 1940s, for Hiawatha sets. Loco only in listing, we do not have tender, it requires 072 wide-radius track. Loco is overall clean, has some touch-ups mainly to edges of orange areas, touch up is slightly darker. Black and gray also have a few touch-ups. It has replacement pony wheels, rear truck may be a repro, not mounted right, but seems to work OK. Drive wheels are original and roll fine. Pick-up is missing the Lionel ID plate and reverse unit lever does not protrude through top of boiler, but it is locked in forward. All Items, including N.
