This would definitely benefit from a cleaning. It’s a little bit dusty from being stored on the shelf. I believe it would clean up to excellent condition. Somewhere along the line, this was converted to run with post war trains, so it does not have pre-war trucks and couplers. It has the post war.

This is a fantastic set of old trains! Cord on transformer will need to be replaced. Baby Ruth box car; is a 1679, Oil Tanker is a 1680, Caboose is a 1682 and the Locomotive is a 1668E Pre-War O gauge.

Rare Pre-War Lionel No. Made in U. Product Details: Brand: Lionel Model: No. 224 Steam Locomotive Gauge: O Gauge Era: Vintage Pre-War (Late 1930s / Early 1940s) Body: Heavy die-cast metal with great authentic patina Condition Description (Please Read Carefully):Valve Gear Issue: Please note that one side of the valve gear linkage is broken. The small black accent piece/eccentric crank that secures the metal rods to the main drive wheel is fractured (clearly documented in the close-up photo). It will require a simple part replacement or repair. Aside from the broken linkage piece, the locomotive is in fantastic cosmetic shape for its age. The undercarriage, gears, wheels, and pick-up rollers are show in the pictures.

All of the electrical parts have been replaced and the unit has been refurbished. The transformer works well and is in good shape, no cracks or broken parts. Screw on caps for all of the rear terminals are present, all posts work as intended. Circuit breaker and short light work as intended. Old fashioned but very useable.
