The Legendary 999: New York Central’s 999 Was Recognized as the First Locomotive to Travel at Over 100 MPH on May 10, 1893. The Empire State Express Traveled The Famous New York to Chicago Route in the Early Days of American Railroading. Item Description: You are looking at a Spectacular Top of the Line Kenton Floor Train Set which is Over 100 Years Old. This Empire State Express Passenger Set is Over 4 Feet Long End to End. Normally the set would have an Electro-Oxidized Finish. This Set is Not Electro-Oxidized, it is However All Painted with Early Thick Heavy Paint. The Engine’s and Tender’s Black Paint appears to have an Original Factory Patina. All other Paint on the Engine and Cars may have been applied by a private party. The New York and Chicago Cars have Red and Yellow undercoats. Either way, All the Paint is Very Old and Meticulously Applied. The Set is a Beautiful Example of Early Americana, a 1 of 1, Unique Paint Combo. This 100+ Year Old Cast Iron Deluxe Set is missing it’s Locomotive Bell and 2 Wire Couplings, otherwise it Appears to be Complete.
