Item: Williams Reproductions Lionel Prewar Locomotive. Year: Manufactured about 1973, model of 1931-33 Lionel. Box / Condition: NO Box. Description: Williams Reproductions Ltd. Replica of a Lionel Lines Standard Gauge No. This loco has a “Bild-A-Loco” motor plate on the side of the body but someone has installed an original Lionel prewar “Standard” motor with a manual reverse lever. This engine is NOT running. We have been able to get the basic motor to run on leads but not reliably. When it works it runs smoothly but it has never worked from the track contacts. 9E in “Stephen Girard” (Apple) Green. THIS IS A REPRODUCTION OF A LIONEL PRODUCT. 2-4-2 (2-B-2) wheel configuration (Engineering Works Wheels). The motor is an original prewar “Lionel Standard” motor. The reverse lever on this motor is inside the body. Excellent condition (except for operation). Very clean, virtually no body problems. It looks like it may never have run under its own power–but remember even as a reproduction it is almost 50 years old. Probably on the shelf or stored for years. A FEW OF THE PARTS HAVE SOME SLIGHT WIGGLE BUT ARE STILL IN PLACE JUST FINE. THE PASSENGER CARS ARE UNTESTED FOR ILLUMINATION AT THE TIME OF THIS LISTING BUT THE WIRING INSIDE IS IN NEAR PRISTINE CONDITION. THE LOCOMOTIVE AND PASSENGER CARS, GIVEN THEIR AGE, ARE STILL IN GREAT CONDITION. THIS SET IS 99% RUST FREE. PLEASE NOTE: WE HAD ORIGINALLY LISTED THIS AS AN ORIGINAL LIONEL SET, BUT WE HAVE RECEIVED A MESSAGE FROM A FELLOW LIONEL COLLECTOR THAT BELIEVES THE PASSENGER CARS ARE REPRODUCTIONS. HE DID NOT SPECIFY WHY HE BELIEVES THEM TO BE SO, BUT WITHOUT GIVING TOO INFORMATION, HE SEEMS TO BE CREDIBLE. WE HAVE AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO RESEARCH TO FIGURE OUT WHAT MAKES HIM BELIEVE THESE ARE REPRODUCTIONS, BUT IN CASE THEY ARE, PLEASE NOTE THAT THEY MAY BE REPRODUCTIONS. AS FAR AS I CAN FIND, LIONEL, WILLIAMS, AND MTH ARE THE ONLY COMPANIES THAT HAD ANY LICENSING TO REPRODUCE THIS STYLE AT ANY GIVEN TIME. THE LIONEL CLASSICS REPRODUCTION HAD A PLATE ON THE BOTTOM WITH LIONEL TRAINS, INC. AND SMALL RAISED RIVETS ON THE BOTTOM PAN. THE WILLIAMS REPRODUCTIONS LINE WAS ONLY ALLOWED TO RUN WITH THE LIONEL BRANDING UNTIL 1976 WHEN THEY WERE ASKED TO REMOVE ANY LIONEL BRANDING FROM THEIR PRODUCTS. THE WILLIAMS REPRODUCTION PASSENGER STATE SET LINE WAS INTRODUCED IN 1980. THE MTH LINE OF THIS SERIES ALSO DOES NOT FEATURE THE LIONEL LINES NAME PLATES, AND VERY DIFFERENT WINDOW INSERTS THAT FEATURE A FLATTER PATTERN TO THE ABOVE WINDOW ASTHETIC.
